Linking

The best way to link a website to a blog post is to use the insert hyperlink button in the toolbar of the new post tab. Create text that describes the site, highlight the text, click insert hyperlink, and then type in the url. After that the text will be a hyperlink.

Creating Your Own Videos on Smartboard

Under the blue notebook tools button (by the clock in windows) you are able to open the Smart Recorder. It will record your audio and anything you write on the board (it is not a true video camera and you are not shown). I create a brief video (about two minutes) for every lesson that I then place in that lesson's blog post. I do that by clicking the add video button that is in the toolbar of the new post tab.

SlideShare

The following link is a storage website for .pdfs.

http://www.slideshare.net

At the end of every lesson I teach on the Smartboard, I click file then export to .pdf so that all my notes are saved to a .pdf. Then I upload them to SlideShare which gives me an embed code that I copy and paste into my blog post for that lesson.

Embedding

Embedding allows you to take other files and put them into your blog seemlessly. Youtube videos are an excellent example of this. Each Youtube video has an embed code that you can copy and paste into the body of a post. Click publish post and that video is now on you blog and can be viewed without the user going to Youtube.

Tab: Stats

The Stats tab allows you to monitor the activity on your blog. I like to use the ALL TIME feature since it gives monthly totals and is the easiest to interpret.

Tab: Monetize

This tab allows you to put ads on your blog and when a users clicks on them, you receive 5 cents (I think, its something very small). I do not use this tab because my blog is used in an educational setting.

Tab: Design

Under the Page Elements sub-menu, you can re-arrange elements and add widgets. Widgets are tools like blog archive that can enhance your blog and make it easier for your users.

You might also want to use the template designer to change the overall look of your blog. They have pre-made templates for you to choose from.

Tab: Settings

The most important setting is under the comments sub-menu. Be sure that comment moderation checked on always, that way any comment that someone attempts to post on you blog is first moderated by you. You will be able to stop comments that you do not want posted on your blog.

Go through each sub-menu and make sure each setting is set the way you would like.

Tabs: Comments

The Comments tab allows you to add or delete comments from your blog. Usually, I deal with comments through the e-mail notification you get whenever anyone posts to your blog.

Tabs: Posting

The tab for Posting allows you to create new post, which are entries in your blog. When you click edit posts you are able to go back and change old posts.
